Alpher Hammerhead 5, Pearl Lilac Metallic
Alpher is a small British shop that builds a handful of basses a year and sweats every detail on each one. The Hammerhead is their modern 5-string: a 34" alder body wearing a Pearl Lilac metallic coat that shifts in the light, on a roasted flamed maple neck that did all its settling long before it reached us.
The electronics mean business. Two Nordstrand dual coils feed a 2-band boost-only Nordstrand preamp, so you're always adding, never scooping the life out of the tone, with four on/off switches to rewire the coils on the fly. Jescar stainless frets that'll outlast you, Hipshot hardware, Schaller straplocks, Lumilay side dots for dark stages, and a battery tucked under the pickguard so nothing breaks the lines. It growls, it sits in a mix, and it doesn't fuss. Gigbag included.
